In Our Memories

In Our Memories

One by one, the heroes must fall.

All gave some, but some gave all.

While the fire of their cause rings loud and true,

The pain of loss starts a fire anew.

To all those who died so we could live, and their mourning families <3 Our hearts and words go out to you~

With gratitude,
Emily <3

Fashion Designer of the Future... (Hopefully)

Howdy y'all ;)
I'm actually considering doing fashion design as a career... Now I know what you're thinking: It's just a phase. There's no way that I would truly want to go to FIT or Parsons. Of course, everyone, including my parents, have shot me down and told me to aim for Harvard/Princeton/Yale/Pretty much any Ivy League School instead. Apparently they think that you have to be some big-shot designer to not starve to death before you rise to fame. Which may be true for all I know...

So I wanted to see if my designs are any good. I have no idea how to make them tangible garments yet, or use any of the fancy techniques that I see on Project Runway, so I still have a LONG way to go even if people like my designs... I'm just trying to find out if this is even a possible career choice. If it helps,  I know how to sew :P

Make-Up or Down?

Hey all you make-up lovers out there :)

I'm not really supposed to wear any cosmetics yet except for maybe some lip gloss or blush for special occasions, but I wanna be prepared! If anything that I've read in high school romance novels are true (*cough cough Twilight*), I have to be an expert on every-and-all things make-up between the summer of 8th grade and the fall of 9th.

And frankly, I pretty much know nothing. Foundation? Primer? Lip-liner? These phrases are the equivalent of a gibberish to me.

That's why I need your help! What are the BARE essentials to look good? Techniques? Tricks-up-your-sleeve? Dire mistakes to learn from? Favorite products? Brands? Colors? Give it all! Please! My mom and sister won't tell me anything when I ask them...

Thanks in advance,
Emily <3

Hip-Hop, Fun Don't Stop!

Emily here, signing in ;)
Okay... so I'm REALLY excited about this new hip-hop class Sophie and I are taking at LA Fitness Club (A gym both our families go to). Our teacher's name is Thomas, and though the name doesn't sound like it, he's really funny and cool and a good dance teacher :D Not to mention the fact that he is the only guy I have ever seen in the class up to this week...
Basically, it's an hour-long class where he teaches us (and whoever else is brave/stupid enough to participate) modern hip-hop dances to popular music. Sometimes we repeat dances, but with our "skills", we usually need the practice ;)
If you do decide to take a dance class, I strongly recommend doing it with a fun teacher and a friend, I find that it's a lot more memorable and enjoyable that way. In fact, two of the reasons why I like it so much is because I do it with Sophie and Thomas. Also, 'cause I get to show-off in front of my other friends ;) even though it's usually REALLY awkward without any music. I posted the dances we've learned thus far below including links to the music because it's hard to hear the audio in our dance videos. And also because if you don't play the music, we just look like a couple of weird amateur mimes or something...heheh.

Dance forever,
Emily <3

J. Crew Girl

(Insert overused greeting here),

So... for this post, I wanted to show you one of the outfits that I have concocted...

One of my favorite parts of waist skirts is that even if your shirt's too long or short, it doesn't matter as long as the top half fits! :D

Mustard and navy blue instantly makes me think of J. Crew, and I also love this outfit because of the waist skirt and cardigan mix.

I think it makes me look more sophisticated than my regular clothes, but it doesn't make me look too old for my age. Also, the backpack kinda gives it a young schoolgirl feel. One of my favorite parts is the cute headband... it's like my signature hair accessory. I usually just slip one on instead of doing some complicated braid bun thing-a-ma-jig with scrunchies and bobby pins.

I never feel comfortable wearing a waist-skirt unless I'm also wearing a belt. This is my favorite and most-worn belt because it's thick so it can hide the place where the two garments meet, and also because it goes with virtually ANYTHING... I also love it because  the large buckle and the brown leather weave keep it interesting.

The only thing I would change about this outfit is the shoes. I've been searching for a pair of wingtip oxfords, and I think they would have given this outfit the perfect old-fashioned flair. I found this really adorable pair online:

I would have liked them in the baby blue they are shown in, the classic white and black, or an ivory with pink roses print. I think the four eyes are adorable and the patent leather makes it look light and flirty.

Do you think this outfit was a hit or miss?
Stay beautiful,
Emily <3
